Ways to motivate employees
How to motivate employees is very important for each company, because it can
not only improve the staffs’ working attitude, but also increase their efficiency. And
the company will finally benefit from it.
There are many ways to motivate employees. Most people would believe that
they can inspire people simply by cash. And material rewarding is Indeed a
effective way to stimulate workers. However, this method is not valid in many
situations. There are many other ways to motive employees and each company
should adopt the best solution according to their own case. In my company, there
is a motivation system which is built by human resources department. Below are
the methods that we used to motivate employee without raising their wages.
1. Recognition/Attention. When employees got some achievements, their
contributions need to be appreciated. Managers should give enough recognition
to them, because they tend to do more when their former contributions are well
acknowledged. Besides, the price of recognition is free.
2. One-on-One Coaching. There will be a lot of unknown for new staffs. And One
on One Coaching will greatly shorten the adaption period for them. They will be
more willing to do their job when they are easily involved.
3. Training. Some people bear the thought that, “My people have already been
trained” or “I’ve got good people. They only need a little training.” Although
training takes time, but different types of training sessions will continually enhance
the performance of the employee and the productivity of business. What’s more,
training is a kind of refreshing activity that can motivate employees from their
routine job.
4. Career Path. Employees need to know what is potentially ahead for them, what
opportunities there are for growth. Managers ought to set career paths within their
organization. If you do this you are sending a very positive message to everyone
that there are indeed further career opportunities within your organization. 5. Job Titles. When you talk about job titles you are tapping the self-esteem of
people. Will your people be proud, or embarrassed, to share their title and
workplace? The importance of feeling proud of who you are and what you do is
very important.
6. Good Work Environment. A recent industry study shows working conditions are
very important to the way employees feel about where they work.
7. Leadership Roles. Most people are stimulated by leadership roles even in spot
appearances. For example, when visitors come to your workplace use this
opportunity to allow an employee to take the role of visitors guide. A great place to
hand out leadership roles is to allow your people to lead brief meetings.
8. Team Spirit. Most people like to physically see themselves as part of a group or
team. When running contests in your area, try to create contests and activity that
are team driven. People driving to reach goals together definitely enhance team
spirit solely because they must lean upon others and be prepared to be leaned
on.
9. Stress Management. Stress and anxiety push us to make necessary changes
in our lives, but too much stress may stop pushing us to act. The best remedy for
anxiety is action, so the mangers should manage employee’s stress,try to
advance the stress into action.
There is an old saying, “you can take a horse to the water but you can’t force it to
drink, it will drink only if it’s thirsty”. To people, they will do what they want to do or
otherwise motivated to do. For the manager, how to inspire employees is an
important lesson they ought to learn.
