carelessly in the forest. As the big fire lasted about a month, several thousand soldiers and

local people joined in the fight against it .

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an

hour each afternoon. His bed was next to the room’s only window. The other man had to spend all his time lying on

his back. The men talked for hours continuously. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their

experience in the army, where they had been on vacation. Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window

could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The

man in the other bed began to live for those one-hour periods when his world would be broadened and enlivened(有

活力的)by all the activities and colors of the world outside.

The window overlooked(俯瞰)a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children

sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm among flowers of every color. Grand old trees made

everything around more attractive, and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance. As the man by the

window described all this in detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the

picturesque(如画的)scene. One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade(列队)passing by.

Although the other man couldn’t hear the band, he could see it in his mind’s eye as the gentleman by the window

pictured it with descriptive words.

Days and weeks passed. One morning, the nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless

body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital

attendants to take the body away. Later, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was

happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone. Finally, he would have the

joy of seeing it for himself.

注意:

1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;

2.应使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语;

3.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;

Paragraph 1:

Slowly and painfully, he made his greatest possible efforts to look out of the window beside the bed.

Paragraph2:

The man was blind and could not even see the wall. Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.”, the nurse

answered.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Paragraph1:

.... When eagerly looking out of the window, he was so frozen that he could see nothing but a blank wall. Sitting

there alone, he wondered why the former roommate spent time describing the lively scenes during the one-hour

periods. After a while, the nurse came in to take his temperature. “Miss, my former roommate used

to picture wonderful things outside the window to me. But actually there is only a wall outside. I just can’t understand

why he did so.”, the man asked.

Paragraph2:

.... He was again shocked and suddenly enlightened(开窍), feeling deeply moved. He remembered how much

he enjoyed the happy moments and felt grateful. There is great happiness in making others happy despite our own

situation. Sharing grief is half the sorrow, but happiness, when shared, is doubled. Never was there another moment

when he knew so clearly what he can do to help the people around him.

When eagerly looking out of the window, he was so frozen that he could see nothing but a blank wall.;倒装句式:Never was there another moment when he knew so clearly what he can do to help the people around him.

The British psychoanalyst John Bowlby maintains that separation from the parents during the sensitive

\"attachment\" period from birth to three may scar a child\'s personality and cause emotional problems in later life.

Some people have drawn the conclusion from Bowlby\'s work that children should not receive day care before the age

of three because of the parental separation it results in, and many people do believe this. But there are also arguments

against such a strong conclusion.

Firstly, authropologists(人类学家)point out that the isQulated love affair between children and parents found

in modern societies does not usually exist in traditional societies. For example, we saw earlier that among the Ngoni(恩戈尼人)the father and mother of a child did not raise their infant alone - far from it.

Secondly, common sense tells us that day care would not be so widespread today if parents, caretakers found

children had problems with it. Statistical studies of this kind have not yet been carried out, and even if they were, the

results would be certain to be complicated and controversial.

Thirdly, in the last decade, there have been a number of careful American studies of children in day care, and

they have reported that day care had a slightly positive effect on children\'s development. But tests that have had to be

used to measure this development are not widely enough accepted to settle the issue.

But Bowlby\'s analysis raises the possibility that early day care has delayed effects. The possibility that such care

might lead to, say, more mental illness or crime 15 or 20 years later can only be explored by the use of statistics.

Whatever the long-term effects, parents sometimes find the immediate effects difficult to deal with. Children under

three are likely to protest at leaving their parents and show unhappiness. At the age of three or three and half almost

all children find the transition to nursery easy, and this is undoubtedly why more and more parents make use of child

care at this time. The matter, then, is far from clear-cut, though experience and available evidence indicate that early

is reasonable for infants.

Some people disagree that separation from the parents during the early years may have a bad effect on a child\'s

personality and emotion. Traditionally, such “attachment” between children and parents didn’t exist .Nowadays, day

care is widely accepted. Besides, the results of American studies show that day care slightly benefits children\'s

development. The possibility of such effects must be proved by statistics in 15 or 20 years.

第一段提出英国精神分析学家约翰·鲍尔比(John Bowlby)的观点“…separation from the parents during the

sensitive \"attachment\" period from birth to three may scar a child\'s personality and cause emotional problems in later

Some

people disagree that separation from the parents during the early years may have a bad effect on a child\'s personality

and emotion.

第二段的主题句是“Firstly, authropologists(人类学家)point out that the isQulated love affair between

children and parents found in modern societies does not usually exist in traditional societies.(

Traditionally , such “attachment” between children and parents didn’t exist.

Secondly, common sense tells us that day care would not be so widespread today if parents,

caretakers found children had problems with it.(其次,常识告诉我们,如果父母、看护人发现孩子(日托)有问题,日托就不会这么普遍了)”。

Nowadays, day care is widely accepted.

Thirdly… there have been a number of careful American studies of children in day care, and

they have reported that day care had a slightly positive effect on children\'s development.(

The results of American studies show that day care slightly benefits

children\'s development。短语“ slightly benefit”与“have slightly positive effect on”语义相同。

Bowlby\'s analysis raises the possibility that early day care has delayed effects. The possibility

that such care might lead to, say, more mental illness or crime 15 or 20 years later can only be explored by the use of

statistics. The possibility of such effects must be proved by statistics in 15 or 20 years.

separation

范文要点全面,结构清晰,层次分明,上下文连贯,在表达时用到了很多高级词汇,如 disagree;from;have a bad effect on;traditionally;exist;be widely accepted;show;benefit;possibility;prove

Besides…等。
